BOX SCORE

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Junior Josh Miller had 14 points and 12 boards as No. 17 Biola led for all but the opening two minutes of the game en route to a 61-49 upset of the defending GSAC champion and No. 3-ranked Fresno Pacific in the GSAC opener for both schools on Tuesday night at Chase Gymnasium.

Biola stays perfect at 5-0 overall and 1-0 in GSAC play. Fresno Pacific's unbeaten streak halts at six, as the Sunbirds fall to 6-1 overall and 0-1 in the GSAC.

A Todd Brown three-pointer opened the scoring in the opening minute but Miller quickly responded with a triple of his own. After a layup by James Lewis, Jr. put the Sunbirds up a basket, Biola kicked it into gear and never looked back.

An 11-4 run over the next six minutes gave the Eagles their largest lead of the first half at 16-9. The Sunbirds were able to keep the score close the rest of the way and trailed by just five at halftime.

The Eagles pulled away for good in the second half with an 8-0 run near the midway point which put the team up 47-36 with just under 10 minutes to go.

While Biola did not necessarily dominate in any one aspect of the game, the Eagles proved their grit by outscoring Fresno Pacific 17-7 on second chance points thanks to Biola outrebounding the Sunbirds 40-27.

Yet, it was the overall effort of the squad that proved to be enough as seniors Marlon King scored 12 points and Danny Campbell poured in 11.

The trademark stingy defense was also in full effect as Biola got a hand up on nearly every three-point attempt by the normally sniper-like Sunbirds, holding Fresno to 3-of-25 shooting from beyond the arc including just 1-of-14 in the second half.

Biola will look to continue the unbeaten streak against Vanguard in Costa Mesa on Saturday night before returning home to host Point Loma Nazarene University on Tuesday.
