BOX SCORE
IRVINE, Calif. --- Despite recording nine shots including five on goal, Biola was unable to find the back of net, suffering a 1-0 loss to No. 17 Concordia University in a GSAC match on Saturday afternoon in Irvine.
Biola drops to 5-5-1 on the season with its fourth-straight loss and drops to 1-5-0 in conference play. Concordia, which has lost just once in its last seven matches, improves to 7-2-3 overall and to 4-1-1 in GSAC action.
The match got off to a pretty even start with each team testing out the other's goalkeeper. Biola held a 5-3 edge in shot attempts through the first 25 minutes, but it was Concordia which drew first blood in the 29th minute.
Concordia ran a set piece after a Biola foul from about 30 yards out. Audrey McKay sent a nice lofting pass into the box where Danielle Garvin headed it into the back of the net for her third goal of the season.
It was the only ball which got past Biola netminder
Erin Frushon, who recorded six saves while facing 14 shots on the afternoon. However, the offense was unable to break through to help support her.
In the second half, Biola had a pair of good chances including a great shot by
Amy Atkinson with just one minute remaining in regulation. However, Concordia goalkeeper Bekah Garvin made a pair of great saves to preserve the shutout.
Biola returns home for its next match, hosting Fresno Pacific University in a GSAC contest on Tuesday (Oct. 20) beginning at 4:30 p.m.
