LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola shot over 55 percent and missed just five shots from the field in the second half en route to its fourth-straight win, defeating Point Loma Nazarene 73-60 in a GSAC game Thursday night at Chase Gymnasium.
The Eagles improve to 16-5 on the season and move to 7-4 in conference play with their fourth-straight win, matching the longest winning streak since early in the 2007-08 season. The Sea Lions drop to 12-9 overall and to 5-6 in the GSAC.
After posting its worst shooting night when the two teams battled in San Diego earlier this season, Biola recorded one of its best shooting nights of the year on Thursday. The Eagles shot 55.3 percent (26-of-47) including its best half of the year, going 16-of-21 in the second half for an eye-popping 76.3 percent. Of those five missed shots, three were from beyond the arc while missing just two two-pointers.
Danny Campbell and Nate Rakestraw had an impressive evening for the Eagles. Each went 6-of-9 from the field including four three pointers with Campbell finishing with 17 points while Rakestraw had 16 points, four assists, five rebounds and two steals.
Biola got off to a bit of a slow start, falling behind 7-1 four minutes into the game. However, the Eagles went on a 12-2 run over the next six minutes to go up by four. The Eagles would extend the lead to seven on a jumper by Josh Miller in the closing seconds of the half.
In the second half, Point Loma closed the gap to five at 30-25 two minutes into the half. Biola responded with another long 14-5 run over the next four minutes to take a commanding 44-30 lead. The Eagles would lead by as many as 18 in the half before closing out the game with a 13-point victory.
Josh Miller also had a strong showing for the Eagles, scoring 13 points and adding four rebounds and as many assists. Rocky Hampton scored eight points and pulled down 11 rebounds in limited action on the night while Marlon King recorded eight points as well.
Biola returns to the court on Tuesday (Feb. 3), taking on No. 6-ranked and GSAC leading Fresno Pacific University in a key conference game at Chase Gymnasium. Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m.
