BOX SCORE
FULLERTON, Calif. ---
Rocky Hampton is beginning to really enjoy Tuesdays. The junior scored 25 points for the second-straight Tuesday to lead Biola to a 57-41 win over Hope International University in a GSAC game on Tuesday night at Darling Pavilion in Fullerton.
The Eagles pick up their third-straight victory and eighth win in their last 10 games, improving to 15-5 on the season. Biola wraps up the first half of GSAC play with a 6-4 conference record and currently sits tied for third in the conference standings, just one game behind Azusa Pacific for second.
Hampton has been red-hot as of late, scoring 64 points in his last three games including pouring in 25 points last Tuesday at The Master's College. After going scoreless in the first half of Saturday's game against California Baptist, Hampton erupted for 14 points in the second half to lead the Eagles to the three-point upset win. On Tuesday, he kept up his hot play with 25 points, adding eight rebounds and four blocked shots to lead the Eagles to the victory.
Hampton helped the Eagles ensure there wouldn't be a repeat of last year, when Hope picked up its lone win of the 2007-08 season at the expense of Biola in Fullerton. In addition to Hampton's outstanding evening, the Eagles used strong defense to thwart any thoughts of an upset.
The two teams battled back and forth through the first half of the game. Holding a slight 18-17 lead with 5:06 to play before the half, Biola closed out the half on a 9-0 run to take a 10-point lead into the locker room.
In the second half, the Royals closed the gap to nine on a jumper by Marcellus Cullors, which made it 35-26 with 13:23 to go. But the Eagles responded with seven-straight points to stretch the lead back to 16 and would not allow Hope to get any closer than 14 the rest of the way.
Biola's
Andrew Schroeder scored 11 points off the bench on 4-of-6 shooting while
Josh Miller scored nine points and added nine rebounds in the winning effort.
The Eagles return to action on Thursday (Jan. 29), beginning the second-half of GSAC play against Point Loma Nazarene. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
