FRESNO --- Despite 20 points from senior Megann Alberts, Biola dropped its conference-opener on Tuesday night, falling 52-43 at Fresno Pacific University.
The Eagles fall to 4-2 on the season on the heels of their second-straight loss despite rising to No. 19 in the latest NAIA National Poll earlier in the week. The Sunbirds improve to 5-1 on the year.
Biola had a tough time with Fresno's tough defense, shooting just 29 percent in the game including hitting just 6-of-22 shots in the second half. The Eagles also turned the ball of 19 times leading to 17 FPU points. Biola was able to keep the game close by holding an impressive 38-25 edge in rebounds.
The Sunbirds were led by the 17 points of Samantha Cardeno, who hit four three-pointers and converted all five free throw attempts.
The Eagles return home for a GSAC game on Saturday (Dec. 6), hosting No. 2 Vanguard University at Chase Gymnasium at 5:30 p.m.
