LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola played one of its best overall matches of the season and walked away with an 1-1 draw against No. 6 Cal Baptist on Wednesday night in a GSAC match at Al Barbour Field.
The Eagles move to 5-6-3 on the season with one match remaining and are now 1-5-3 in GSAC play. The Lancers go to 13-3-1 and are 7-1-1 in conference action.
Biola looked sharp against one of the best teams in the NAIA this season, passing well, putting together impressive attacks and holding the high-scoring Cal Baptist offense to just 13 shots in the match.
Biola got on the board first on a brilliant header by junior midfielder Kahlie Rienecke. Reinecke deflected a great cross of the foot of sophomore Caitlin Peterson to the far side of the goal to give Biola an early 1-0 lead just 25 minutes in.
The two teams continued to battle back-and-forth with the Lancers playing with a renewed sense of urgency. They came close to tying the score in the 44th minute as a shot by Lindsey Merrett clanged off the crossbar.
Cal Baptist would eventually tie the match with a goal just over three minutes into the second half as Amanda Lammers finished a scramble in the box in the 49th minute to knot things up at 1-1.
Biola hung tough with the Lancers the rest of the way, matching the highly-ranked Cal Baptist squad shot for shot.
Freshman Erin Frushon made just her second start of the year for the Eagles and was quite impressive. She faced 13 shots and recorded three saves en route to the tie. Across the pitch, Cal Baptist goalie Emily Evanson was equally impressive, recording four saves while facing 10 shots.
Tonight's match was also the final home match for Biola senior Brittany Neill, who was honored at halftime for her work and dedication over her last two years at Biola.
Biola closes out the regular season on Saturday (Nov. 1) with a trip to face San Diego Christian College at 11:00 a.m.
