FRESNO, Calif. --- Junior Kelsey Mitchell recorded 10 kills and three aces to lead Biola University to a 30-16, 30-18, 30-19 sweep over Oregon Tech to close out the Fresno Pacific Sunbird Classic on Saturday.
The Eagles improve to 3-0 on the season with their third straight sweep while the Owls fall to 0-3 on the year.
Biola had little trouble in the first game, jumping out to a quick 12-4 lead and cruising to the easy victory. Leading 15-13 in a back-and-forth affair in the game two, the Eagles went on a 9-1 run to pull away and win 30-18. In the final game, Biola went on a long 10-1 run to break open a close game and wrap up the match.
Christina Perkins had 22 assists and eight digs as part of the Eagles' two-pronged setting attack with Abbie Wright adding 17 assists, five digs and two aces.
Overall, Biola recorded 13 service aces, 10 blocks and a .317 attack percentage. The Eagles held Oregon Tech to a hitting percentage of .061 in the match.
Juniors Kristen Peterson and Meghan Warkentin (Scheenstra) each had eight kills with Peterson adding five blocks.
Biola returns to Southern California for the Concordia University (Calif.) Labor Day Festival on Friday and Saturday (Aug. 31-Sept. 1) where the Eagles will face three nationally-ranked opponents.
