Biola freshman Ava Lourenco became the first women's golfer in program history to win an individual tournament title, winning the Cal State San Marcos Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at the Twin Oaks Golf Course in San Marcos.

Lourenco fired a six-over-par 150 to finish in a tie for first place, carding a better score on the back nine of the final round to break the tie and take home the trophy. Lourenco opened the tournament with a first-round 74 and carded a 76 on the second day for the 150.

Her round helped the Biola women's team place second among five teams on the women's side--the best finish in the team's short history.

Lourenco's performance was her fourth Top 10 finish in as many competitions as a collegiate golfer. She opened her Biola career with an eighth place finish at the Grand Canyon University Fall Classic, the placed fourth at the Emrby-Riddle Invitational a week later. Two weeks ago, Lourenco placed sixth among a field of mostly NCAA Division I golfers at the Cal Poly Women's Collegiate Championships.

The Cal State San Marcos Invitational closed out the fall portion of the schedule for the Biola golf teams. The Biola women open the spring scheduleat the Point Loma Nazarene Super San Diego Championship on Feb. 11-12 at the Riverwalk Golf Course in San Diego.
