David Goodman became the head coach of the Biola men's and women's tennis programs in the summer of 2016. Spring 2027 will mark his 11th season leading the Eagles.

Through the Years
2026 The men's team posted a 17-5 overall record, won the NCAA Division II West Regional at Biola and advanced to the NCAA Division II National Championships for the first time in program history. The Eagles finished second at the PacWest Championships, were nationally ranked by the ITA for six weeks and climbed as high as No. 22 in the national rankings. Biola also defeated Hawai'i Pacific for the first time in program history with a 4-3 victory on Feb. 13.
Alejandro Flores Monteverde and Angel Guerrero Melgar earned ITA First Team All-America honors in doubles after capturing the ITA West Regional Men's Open Doubles Championship. The duo also earned First Team All-PacWest honors in both singles and doubles, while Adam Large received Second Team All-PacWest singles recognition.
The women's team finished 13-9 overall, placed fifth at the PacWest Championships and earned an ITA national ranking of No. 50. Yeo Kyung Kim earned Second Team All-PacWest singles honors and Third Team doubles recognition. Alessia Radu, Ivet Stancheva and Dafne Andres were named Third Team All-PacWest in singles, while Alexis Romano joined Kim on the Third Team in doubles.
For their efforts during the 2026 season, Goodman was named the PacWest Coach of the Year and Biola Athletics Head Coach of the Year, while his assistant earned ITA West Region Assistant Coach of the Year honors.
2025 The men's team finished 8-13 overall and placed eighth in the PacWest Conference. Alejandro Flores Monteverde earned First Team All-PacWest honors in both singles and doubles and climbed as high as No. 66 in the ITA Singles Rankings and No. 20 in the ITA Doubles Rankings alongside Jules Zanarelli. Zanarelli also earned First Team All-PacWest doubles recognition, while Patricio Larrea was selected to the Third Team.
The women's team finished 16-8 overall, placed second in the PacWest Conference and climbed as high as No. 45 in the ITA National Rankings. Isabella Chavarria earned First Team All-PacWest singles honors, while Gaby Carvajal climbed as high as No. 51 in the ITA Singles Rankings.
2024 The men's team finished 16-9 overall, placed third at the PacWest Championships and advanced to the NCAA Division II West Regional. The Eagles were named PacWest Team of the Week twice and climbed as high as No. 47 in the ITA National Rankings.
Nico Ramírez highlighted the season by earning PacWest Newcomer of the Year honors while being named First Team All-PacWest in both singles and doubles. Adrian Solorzano earned Second Team All-PacWest singles honors and First Team doubles recognition, while Alejandro Flores Monteverde was selected to the Third Team in singles.
The women's team posted a 17-10 overall record and finished sixth at the PacWest Championships. Colbeyshae Emery earned ITA Singles All-America honors and First Team All-PacWest singles recognition, while Brooke Fager and Alexandria Mann earned ITA Doubles All-America honors and First Team All-PacWest doubles recognition. Lilly McNeill also received Third Team All-PacWest singles honors.
2023 The men's team finished 14-7 overall and fifth in the PacWest Conference. The Eagles were named PacWest Team of the Week twice and earned victories over nationally ranked No. 15 Midwestern State, No. 24 Point Loma and No. 29 Azusa Pacific.
Alexey Prokopchuk earned First Team All-PacWest singles honors and climbed as high as No. 18 in the ITA National Singles Rankings. Adrian Solorzano earned Third Team All-PacWest singles honors, while Solorzano and Antonio Rosales Varona were named First Team All-PacWest in doubles. Rosales Varona also earned CSC Second Team Academic All-America honors.
The women's team finished 6-13 overall and was led by Colbeyshae Emery, who earned Second Team All-PacWest honors in both singles and doubles. Brooke Fager joined Emery as a Second Team All-PacWest doubles selection. Emery also climbed as high as No. 48 in the ITA National Singles Rankings.
2022 The men's team surged past their previous best win total and ended the year with an 18-9 mark. Throughout the 2022 season, the Eagles climbed the ITA National Rankings to as high as No. 18. Biola advanced to the PacWest Championships as the third seed and finished fifth. The Eagles advanced to the NCAA West Regional for the first time in program history. Sebastian Herrera and Alexei Prokopchuk earned First Team All-PacWest honors, while Herrera capped the year with ITA Singles All-America honors.
BU women's tennis also notched its best record in program history with a 21-6 mark. The team earned a No. 10 ITA ranking and logged notable wins over No. 7 Hawai'i Pacific and No. 11 Azusa Pacific. Biola went on a 14-match winning streak, which contributed to its No. 3 seed entering the PacWest Championships. Mary Brascia and Colbeyshae Emery carried the load for BU, dominating the No. 2 and No. 1 singles positions, respectively. The duo earned All-PacWest honors in both singles and doubles. The women's team finished sixth at the PacWest Championships.
For his work in 2022, Goodman was named Biola Athletics' first Coach of the Year.
2021 The men's team posted its first .500 season in program history, finishing 10-10 overall. The Eagles finished sixth at the PacWest Championships after opening the tournament against No. 12 Hawai'i Hilo. Alexei Prokopchuk earned First Team All-PacWest honors after posting a 9-5 record on the No. 1 singles court.
The women's team recorded its first winning season in 27 years, finishing 13-8 overall. Biola went on a nine-match winning streak, placed fourth at the PacWest Championships and advanced to the NCAA West Regional for the first time in program history.
Colbeyshae Emery earned First Team All-PacWest honors after posting a 12-2 record on the No. 1 singles court and compiling a 10-match winning streak.
2020 Even with the season shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Goodman's men's and women's tennis programs established themselves as contenders in the PacWest Conference. The men's team posted a four-match winning streak, including two conference victories, defeated Point Loma for the first time in program history and came within one point of victories over UC San Diego, Azusa Pacific and Concordia. Meanwhile, the women's team also posted a four-match winning streak, earned two conference victories, finished 5-3 at the Biola Tennis Center and saw freshman Colbeyshae Emery set a new program record.
Emery set a program record with 10 consecutive singles victories at the No. 1 position, while Prokopchuk established the men's program record with a six-match winning streak on the No. 1 court. Brooke Fager stepped into the No. 2 singles position as a freshman and joined Emery on the No. 1 doubles team, while Faith Grisham also posted key doubles victories in her first collegiate season.
2019 The men's team won 10 matches, including six at home and program-first victories over San Diego Christian and Westmont, while producing two All-PacWest selections in Derek James and Edwyn Ramos. The women's team qualified for the PacWest Championships with two conference victories and posted the best home record in program history at 8-3.
2018 The men's team won five matches at the Biola Tennis Center and finished sixth at the PacWest Championships after defeating Sonoma State for the second time in as many meetings. The women's team, comprised entirely of underclassmen, finished 2-1 in its final three home matches and closed the season with a sweep of Ottawa (Ariz.).
2017 The men's team climbed to No. 24 in the NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll on Feb. 14. The women's team closed the season with a first-round victory over Westmont in the GSAC Tournament. The 2017 season also marked the beginning of Biola's transition to NCAA Division II competition, with Goodman scheduling matches against five future PacWest opponents for both programs.
Before Biola
Goodman returned to BU after serving as head coach for his alma mater, Azusa Pacific University. At Azusa Pacific, he was the women's tennis coach from 2014 to 2016. Prior to coaching at APU, he was the head men’s coach for the Eagles from 2012 to 2014.
Playing Career
Goodman played collegiate tennis at Azusa Pacific University. He garnered several accomplishments at Azusa Pacific including being named a four-time NAIA All-American who compiled a 63-28 singles record and a 92-21 mark in doubles play in four seasons. He was also a member of the Cougars' 2005 national championship team and was named GSAC Player of the Year in 2007.

Goodman resides in Covina, Calif. with his wife, Katy, and and their three children (Emma, Allison and Joseph).
