COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.--- Biola closed out the Air Force Rare Air Invitational with a 14-9 victory over Augustana on Sunday at the Cadet Natatorium.
The Eagles struck first with Ryder Imbriani and Gavin Starling scoring 47 seconds apart, both off assists from Noah Ryznar. Augustana responded with three unanswered goals to take the lead before Ryznar converted a penalty shot to even the match at 3-3. Augustana added one more late in the quarter to take a 4-3 advantage into the second.
Biola responded with its best offensive quarter of the match, putting five goals on the board. Landon Heuer opened the scoring for the Eagles before Colton Brown and Kyle Seifen followed to give BU a 6-5 lead. After Augustana tied the match, Ryznar put Biola back in front and Carson Crocket scored with 48 seconds remaining to send the Eagles into halftime ahead 8-7.
The Eagles took control after the break, shutting out Augustana in the third quarter while adding four goals of their own. Ryznar opened the second half with his third goal of the match before Imbriani, Starling and Brown each found the back of the cage, extending Biola's advantage to 12-7 entering the fourth.
Augustana opened the final quarter with two goals to pull within three, but Biola quickly stopped the run. Imbriani completed his hat trick with 5:27 remaining before Isaac Demski added the final goal of the afternoon to secure the 14-9 victory.
Ryznar and Imbriani led the Eagles with matching lines of three goals and two assists. Starling and Brown each scored twice, while Heuer, Seifen, Crocket and Demski added one goal apiece.Â
Cooper Smith went the distance in goal for Biola, recording nine saves across 32 minutes while holding Augustana to nine goals.Â
Biola improved to 5-10 on the season with the win. The Eagles return to action on Friday, October 2 against La Verne at the Gary Troyer Tournament.
