LA MIRADA --- Biola Volleyball continued its strong run on Monday night with a 3-0 sweep of Hawaii Pacific (25-15, 25-13, 25-18) at Chase Gymnasium. The win marked the Eagles' ninth-straight victory and moved BU to 5-0 in PacWest play.
The Eagles put together an efficient offensive performance, totaling 50 kills on a .375 hitting percentage while holding Hawaii Pacific to a .054 clip. Biola was especially sharp through the first two sets, hitting .500 in the opener and .519 in the second.
Hawaii Pacific stayed close early in the opening frame before Biola began to pull away from a 9-9 tie. Juliana Van Ommering and Haylee LaFontaine helped the Eagles create separation before BU scored the final four points of the set. Savannah Simpson, Payton Tully and Van Ommering each recorded a kill during the closing run to secure the 25-15 victory.
The Eagles carried that momentum into the second. After another tight start, Biola broke an 8-8 tie and quickly built a 15-9 advantage behind its balanced attack. LaFontaine and Van Ommering continued to lead the way as BU pulled away, scoring the final five points to take the set 25-13 and move ahead 2-0 in the match.
Biola jumped ahead 4-0 in the third behind kills from Van Ommering, Natalie Ojeisekhoba and Emily Page. The Eagles eventually stretched the lead to 19-11 before Hawaii Pacific made a late push, trimming the margin to 19-16. Madison Moore stopped the run with a kill and took over down the stretch, recording five kills as Biola closed out the sweep with a 25-18 win.
Van Ommering led all hitters with 11 kills on a .474 hitting percentage. LaFontaine added nine kills without an attack error, hitting .529, while Simpson also finished with nine kills and hit .615. Ojeisekhoba made the most of her limited action, recording four kills on six attempts for a .667 hitting percentage while adding two block assists.
Page and Hannah Hanson combined for 40 assists, with Page leading the Eagles with 21 and Hanson adding 19. Caprice Cooper anchored the back row with a match-high 13 digs, while Ashlyn Beebe contributed seven digs and a service ace.
Biola continues PacWest play tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 22, against Chaminade at Chase Gymnasium.
