Ryznar Explodes for Eight Against Cal State Fullerton

Noah Ryznar scores a career-high eight goals as Biola pushes Cal State Fullerton to the final minutes in a 14-12 battle.

FULLERTON, Calif. --- Noah Ryznar poured in eight goals as Biola men's water polo battled Cal State Fullerton to the final minutes on Saturday evening in a 14-12 setback at the Titan Invite.

Biola came out fast, with Ryznar converting a pair of five-meter penalties less than a minute apart to give the Eagles an early 2-0 advantage. Fullerton answered with back-to-back goals to even the score before Carson Crocket put BU back in front.

The Titans tied things once again, but Micah Hernandez connected on a power play off an assist from Crocket before Gavin Starling found the back of the cage with 24 seconds remaining to give Biola a 5-4 advantage after one.

Fullerton gained the upper hand in the second quarter, outscoring Biola 5-2. Ryznar accounted for both Eagle goals, first connecting on a power play off a feed from Hernandez before scoring again less than a minute later to put Biola back in front, 7-6.

The Titans responded with three unanswered goals to close the half and take a 9-7 advantage into the break.

Biola continued to stay within striking distance throughout the third quarter. Ryznar opened the period with another five-meter conversion before Kevin Slack found the back of the cage off an assist from Jayden Rose. Fullerton answered each time, but Ryznar struck again with 58 seconds remaining to pull the Eagles within one, 11-10, heading into the fourth.

Ryznar quickly erased the deficit in the final period. The sophomore converted two more five-meter penalties just 21 seconds apart, giving Biola a 12-11 lead with 6:38 remaining.

Fullerton responded 31 seconds later to tie the match before taking the lead with 4:29 to play. The Titans added their final goal as time expired to secure the 14-12 decision.

Ryznar finished with a career-high eight goals on 13 shots, accounting for two-thirds of Biola's scoring. Hernandez contributed a goal and two assists while also leading the defensive effort with four steals. Crocket added a goal and an assist, while Slack and Starling each scored once.

Igor Pinheiro played all 32 minutes in goal for the Eagles and recorded six saves.

Biola moved to 3-8 on the season and returns to action next weekend at the Air Force Rare Air Invitational in Colorado Springs.
