Four Eagles Earn All-PacWest Awards

James Whitman headlines with Player of the Year, three Eagles follow with First and Second Team honors

LA MIRADA --- James Whitman was named the PacWest Player of the Year by the PacWest Conference on Tuesday evening. Whitman had the best statistical season of his career, breaking multiple Biola Division II single-season and all-time records. 

Whitman highlighted his senior campaign by breaking the all-time home run record, mashing 49 home runs across his four year career, including a record-high 19 this season. He led the conference in an astounding eight categories, including batting average, home runs, runs scored, on-base percentage, and OPS. Whitman collected 58 RBIs, drew 41 walks and was hit by 24 pitches, both first in the conference. Additionally, he stole nine bases in nine attempts. 

Three more Eagles received All-PacWest nods. Jonny Tewinkle was named to the All-PacWest First Team. In a stellar senior campaign, Tewinkle averaged .411 at the plate with an OPS of 1.170, tallying a PacWest best 79 hits. Tewinkle collected 47 RBIs, 12 doubles and 12 home runs. 

Luke Caruso and Oscar Knapp were both named to the All-PacWest Second Team. Caruso was the primary second baseman for the Eagles, starting 48 of Biola's 52 games. Caruso hit .335 from the leadoff spot. He had 59 hits and 61 runs scored, collected seven home runs and 25 RBIs. Caruso was tied for first in the PacWest in hit by pitches with 24.

Knapp primarily played as the Eagles first baseman, appearing in 38 games, starting 36 of them. Knapp averaged .359 in 131 at bats. Knapp tallied 47 hits, including 16 doubles and four home runs. Knapp collected 47 RBIs and drew 14 walks.
