SAN RAFAEL, Calif.---The Biola softball team bounced back on Tuesday, defeating Dominican 9–3 at Penguin Field after dropping both games of the doubleheader the day before by close margins.
Biola responded after Dominican plated two runs in the opening inning. The Eagles answered in the second, trimming the deficit to 2–1 by capitalizing on a defensive miscue.
The Eagles took control in the fourth inning. Kennadie Tsue tied the game with a solo home run to left field, and Biola continued to apply pressure as Jackie Ibarra and Kendall Nakano delivered RBI singles to give the Eagles a 4–2 lead.
Biola added on in the fifth, pushing its advantage to 5–2 after another run crossed on a Dominican error. The Penguins responded with a run in the bottom half, but the Eagles continued to build separation.
In the sixth, Ariana Banos drove in a run with an RBI single to extend the lead to 6–3.
The Eagles sealed the victory in the seventh inning. After back-to-back hits from Alexa Medley Sheard and Ibarra, Lillianna Garcia delivered the biggest swing of the game, launching a three-run home run to center field to extend the lead to 9–3.
In the circle, Kayla Bousquette earned the win, tossing a complete game while allowing three runs on four hits and working through five walks. Bousquette improved to 15-4 overall in the circle.
Biola finished with 16 hits in the game. Ibarra, Nakano and Tsue each recorded three hits, while Garcia drove in three runs with her home run.
With the win, Biola improved to 31–17 overall and 24–6 in PacWest play.
