LA MIRADA---The Biola softball team completed the doubleheader sweep with a 7–0 shutout over Hawai'i Pacific on Monday evening at Freedom Field. Strong pitching from
Kayla Bousquette and timely hitting powered the Eagles to the victory.
Biola got off to a quick start in the first inning. Jackie Ibarra reached on a single before Kendall Nakano drove her in with a double to right center. Lillianna Garcia followed with an RBI single to give the Eagles an early 2–0 lead.
The Eagles added another run in the second inning. Ariana Banos singled and later came around to score on an RBI single from Lizzie Byer, extending the lead to 3–0.
Biola broke the game open in the fifth. Nakano doubled to start the rally and later scored, while Mikala Huskey added an RBI single. Banos delivered the biggest hit of the game, a three-run home run to center field, pushing the Eagles' lead to 7–0.
In the circle, Bousquette was dominant. She pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing just four hits while striking out six to improve her record to 9–3 on the season.
Biola finished with nine hits in the game. Nakano led the offense with two doubles and an RBI, while Banos drove in three runs with her home run. Huskey and Garcia each contributed an RBI to round out the Eagles' scoring.
With the win, Biola improved to 16–15 on the season and 9-4 in the PacWest Conference. The Eagles play Hawaii Pacific again tomorrow Tuesday, March 17 at 3 and 5:30 p.m.
