Eagles Open Challenge with Win

The Biola Eagles opened the D2 West Coast Challenge with a win over Colorado Mesa.

LAKE ELSINORE, Calif.---The Biola softball team started the D2 West Coast Challenge with a 4-3 victory over Colorado Mesa at the Rosetta Canyon Sports Park.

The Eagles scored two runs in the first inning. Kendall Nakano blasted a two-run homer over the left center fence to give BU the 2-0 lead. 

Biola added two insurance runs in the third which put them ahead 4-0. A sacrifice fly by Mikala Huskey, scored BU two more runs. Ariana Banos got on with a single and an error on a fielder's choice allowed Banos to advance to third and Lizzie Byer to get to second. Husky's sac fly scored both Banos and Byer.

The Eagles held off the Mavericks who managed to score two runs in the fourth and one in the sixth.

Kayla Bousquette started the game for Biola and pitched 5.1 innings. The Senior showed pose, overcoming adversity in the fourth. Colorado Mesa began the fourth with a lead-off home run and a single. Bousquette regrouped and answered by striking out the next two batters. Another single allowed CMU to score one more run but Bousquette would come back with another strikeout to end the inning.

DJ Symons relieved Bousquette in the sixth inning. After two hits and one run scored, Symons came in and recorded the next two outs to get Biola out of the inning.

Bousquette received the win in the circle for Biola (2-0) and Symons earned her first save of the year.

Biola improved 3-2 overall while Colorado Mesa fell 0-3.
