LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. — After taking a gutsy win earlier in the day, the Biola University softball team ran into a resilient Stanislaus State squad in its second contest at Rosetta Canyon Sports Park, dropping a 4–2 game. Biola entered the game with a 3-0 all-time record against the Warriors.
Stanislaus State grabbed control early, scoring all four of its runs in the third inning. The rally was launched with three consecutive two-out hits. Then, a wild pitch, hit-by-pitch, walk and two-run single ended up putting the runs on the board for Stanislaus State.
Biola responded in the bottom of the third as Kendall Nakano's RBI groundout brought home Madeline Granados for the Eagles' first run. The Eagles then had to dance out of danger in the top half of the fifth when the Warriors loaded the bases and were threatening to put the game out of reach. At this point, DJ Symons re-entered the game and got two outs for BU to strand the runners.
The Warriors loaded the bases again in the seventh, but once more Symons managed to work her way out of it unscathed.
The Eagles continued to battle late, and their persistence paid off in the seventh inning when Granados once again got involved. She drove in
Madison Duncan with a double to pull Biola within two.
Things were looking up for Head Coach Kristin Halte's squad, now within striking distance and with two runners on, one out and the heart of the order due up to bat.
Unfortunately, this time the Eagles' hitters could not come through as a flyout and groundout ended the game with two Biolans left on base.
Lizzie Byer and Granados each had two hits for Biola. As a team, BU mustered eight hits, compared to just seven from Stanislaus State. The Stanislaus State starting pitcher went the distance to pick up her first win of the season.
The nightcap loss puts Biola's record to 3-3 for the young season. They close up tournament play tomorrow out in Lake Elsinore against two of 2025's top teams in the region, Cal Poly Humboldt (3-3) and Cal State East Bay (5-1).
