Early Inning Proved Costly

Eagles’ offense finds rhythm late, fall 14-4 in series opener

SAN MARCOS, Calif. --- The Biola baseball team visited Dennis A. Pugh Baseball Field to take on Cal State San Marcos. The Eagles were unable to overcome a six-run first inning, losing 14-4.

Biola's offense was effective when runners were on. Tommy Kendlinger, Jonny Tewinkle, Kyle Rogers and James Whitman were the only Eagles to reach base via hit.

Oscar Knapp was the first run across for BU in the fourth inning after a flyout by Ty Cowley. In the seventh, Luke Caruso reached on a fielder's choice as Tewinkle came into score. In the eighth, it was Tewinkle who ripped a double on a 2-0 pitch to center field, scoring Rogers and Kendlinger followed with a base hit up the middle to score Tewinkle.

Jack O'Brasky got the start for BU. After facing nine hitters and recording one out, Gabe Magallan came in and threw 4 and a third, striking out three. Nathan Hernandez made his first appearance of the season throwing 2 and third shutout innings and Knapp closed it out.

The Eagles move to 3-2 on the season and take on CSUSM for game two at 2 p.m.
