Biola battles back multiple times before four-game win streak ends against Dominican

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. --- The Biola men's basketball team visited the Conlan Recreation Center to take on the Dominican Penguins on Thursday night. The Eagles' four game win streak came to an end against the Penguins, 82-78.

Three Eagles found double digit scoring. Cameron Brown and Charlie Gehler each scored 16 points and corralled five rebounds. Gehler added four steals. Tyus Parrish-Tillman contributed 14 points, five boards and three assists. Off the bench, Garrison Sherman and Leyton Martin combined for 15 points and 11 rebounds. As a team, Biola shot 42 percent from the floor and 28 percent from three.

The Penguins took the charge in the early going before Parrish-Tillman put the Eagles on the board. A 16-8 BU run gave them their first lead of the game, backed by buckets from Parrish-Tillman, Gehler, Brown, Martin and Chris Harris. Biola jumped into the bonus just after the halfway point but costly turnovers helped Dominican maintain a tight lead. In the closing 10 minutes, Facundo Aranda and Brown combined for 15 of the 23 points scored for BU. Biola trailed 44-39 into the halftime break.

Sherman and Gehler opened the second half on an 11-6 run that tied the game at 50 all. Back and forth the scoring went. Gannon Dykstra gave Biola a spark off the bench with a quick five points. Brown and Parrish-Tillman chipped in a combined 11 points and Martin added four more. Despite clutch buckets down the stretch, the Eagles were unable to come away with a key road win.

With the loss, Biola moves to 11-12 overall and 7-10 in conference. They will conclude their short road trip on Saturday, Feb. 14 against Menlo College at 2 p.m.
