Eagles score three after the break to shut out Hawaii Hilo

LA MIRADA --- The Biola men's soccer team hosted Hawaii Hilo on Thursday night at Al Barbour Field, earning a 3-0 PacWest victory behind two late goals from Kyle Denn.

The two sides played through a scoreless opening half, with Biola holding a 5-2 advantage in shots. Denn recorded two of the Eagles' five attempts before the break, while Jeremy Larson and Ryan Ellsworth also created chances.

The match remained scoreless until the 60th minute, when Daniel Celis broke through off an assist from Ethan Michael. It was Celis' first goal of the season and stood as the game-winner.

Denn doubled the lead in the 78th minute, converting a penalty kick to put the Eagles ahead 2-0. He added his second of the night in the 88th minute off an assist from Mickyas Beyene to close out the scoring.

Denn led all players with seven shots, including three on goal. Celis scored on his only shot of the match, while Cruz Navarro also put an attempt on frame.

The Vulcans outshot the Eagles 15-13, including 13 shots after halftime, but Ethan Kell turned aside all three shots on goal he faced over 90 minutes to record the shutout. His final save came in the 90th minute.

With the win, Biola improved to 2-5-3 overall and 2-0-1 in PacWest play, while Hawaii Hilo fall to 4-4-1 overall and 1-1-1 in conference play.

The Eagles will take on the Dominican Penguins on Wednesday, October 7th at 3:30 p.m.
