A Statement Start

The Eagles began their 2026 with a dominant 10-2 run-rule victory over San Francisco State.

IRVINE, Calif.---The Biola softball team began their 2026 with a dominant 10-2 run-rule victory over San Francisco State.

A slow start left the Eagles facing a 2–0 deficit at the end of the first inning but Biola would hold the Gators in the second and find their momentum in the third.

Biola posted six runs in the third from five hits and one Gator error. Leilani Salgado, Jackie Ibarra, Kendall Nakano, Mikala Huskey and Lizzie Byer supplied hits in BU's breakout inning. Nakano scored Biola's first run of the game and Ariana Banos scored the next off a fielder's choice. Byer, a freshman, hammered a double that knocked in the next two runs. Biola's final run was scored by Kennadie Tsue from a  fielder's choice.

The Eagles wasted no time, adding on four more runs in the fourth. Salgado, Ibarra, Nakano and Tsue recorded hits. Nakano doubled to add two more runs to BU's score. Ibarra scored off a wild pitch and Tsue scored the Eagles final two runs of the game.

Biola totaled 10 hits. Nakano went an impressive 3-for-4 and Salgado went 2-for-2. Four Eagles batted .500 against SFSU including Ibarra, Huskey, Byer and Tsue.

DJ Symons threw the entire five innings, only allowing four hits and the two runs that scored in the first. The Senior also had four strikeouts and two 1-2-3 innings in what was a great first game appearance.
