Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Oof!

A late FPU 3-pointer and takeaway turned dunk sink Biola at home.

LA MIRADA, Calif. — Biola Men's Basketball delivered another resilient effort Thursday night but came up just short in a heartbreaking 70–62 PacWest loss to Fresno Pacific at Chase Gym.

After building a double-digit lead early, enduring a long stretch of Sunbirds' success, and fighting all the way back to regain the advantage late, the Eagles watched FPU close the final minute with precision to steal the win.

Fresno Pacific erased a Biola lead with under a minute remaining, using a decisive sequence of a go-ahead three-pointer, a steal and fast-break dunk, and clutch free-throw shooting to seal the outcome.

Biola couldn't have scripted a better opening stretch. The Eagles jumped out to an early 10-point lead, shooting efficiently and controlling the paint while forcing Fresno Pacific into rushed possessions. The energy in Chase Gym matched the start as Biola dictated pace and physicality.

Momentum shifted as the half wore on. Fresno Pacific responded with timely perimeter shooting, gradually chipping away before closing the first half on a strong run to take a 40–33 lead into the break. Despite shooting 46 percent in the opening half, Biola found itself behind.

The second half brought more adversity for Head Coach Dr. Dave Holmquist's Biola Eagles. Fresno Pacific pushed the lead into double figures, forcing Biola to play from behind for most of the final 20 minutes. Yet the Eagles never folded.

Biola mounted a determined comeback in the closing minutes, stringing together defensive stops and interior scoring to claw back. With just over a minute remaining, the Eagles had flipped the script and held onto a 62–60 lead, appearing poised to complete a dramatic turnaround.

What followed was the game's defining stretch.

Fresno Pacific answered immediately with a three-pointer at the 49-second mark, then capitalized on a Biola turnover with a steal and breakaway dunk seconds later to silence the crowd. Forced to foul in the final moments, Biola watched the Sunbirds calmly convert free throws to put the game away.

Biola finished the night shooting 45 percent from the field and scored 40 points in the paint, but cold perimeter shooting proved costly, as the Eagles went just 4-for-18 from three. Fresno Pacific, meanwhile, connected on 11 three-pointers, including the late go-ahead shot.

Biola was led offensively by Cameron Brown, who delivered yet another standout performance with 21 points on 10-of-17 shooting. Brown was aggressive from the opening minutes, scoring at all three levels and carrying the Eagles through both their early surge and their late comeback push. His efficiency and shot-making kept Biola within striking distance during long stretches when offense was hard to come by.

Tyus Parrish-Tillman provided a strong all-around effort, finishing with 15 points, seven rebounds, three blocks, and three assists in just 29 minutes of action. His presence on both ends was felt throughout the night, particularly during Biola's rally in the second half, as he protected the rim, facilitated offensively, and brought consistent energy in key moments.

The loss drops Biola to 7–11 overall and 3–9 in PacWest play, part of a difficult stretch that has seen the Eagles drop six of their last seven games. Despite the record, Thursday's contest again underscored how narrow the margins have been, particularly against Fresno Pacific, which edged Biola twice this season—including an overtime decision in December.

With the fight and resilience on display, the Eagles now turn their attention to regrouping as conference play continues, searching for consistency and finishes as the season moves forward. Join us on Saturday Jan. 31 inside of Chase Gym as Biola hosts Jessup University (9-10, 6-7 PacWest).
