Returning Home on a High

The Biola Eagles return to La Mirada on a high note, with their victory over Hawaii Hilo.

HILO, Hawaii---The Biola women's basketball team had an exciting ending to their Hawaii road trip, securing a 77-54 victory over Hawaii Hilo at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.

The Eagles stayed in command all afternoon, leading the entire way and pushing their margin to 28 points at its peak. Biola was efficient in their scoring, shooting 52.5 percent from the field, 46.2 percent beyond the arc and 50 percent from the free throw line while holding the Vulcans to 30.6 in the field and 11.1 beyond the arc. 

Biola's depth was on full display, as numerous Eagles got the chance to chip in. Biola's bench contributed 40 points. Camden Miller, Alyssa Kubo and Emily Cruz scored seven points off the bench. MiaGrace Delahoz added six and Addison Taylore tallied four.

Hanne Nyboe and Grace Moyers led their team with 12 points each.


Miller led her team on the boards (7) and Laney Grider had a team-high of three steals. Grider, Kubo, and Aliyah Bantolina led BU with five assists each. 

Biola set the tone early, edging Hawaii Hilo 14–10 after the opening 10 minutes.

The Eagles found their offensive rhythm in the second quarter, shooting over 64 percent from the field in the frame. Biola outscored the Vulcans 22–12 in the period, using efficient ball movement and perimeter shooting to extend the lead to 36–22 at halftime.

Biola continued to apply pressure after the break, outscoring Hilo 19–8 in the third quarter. Moyers, Nybo and Grider led the charge during the stretch, combining inside finishes with timely three-point shooting to push the Eagles' advantage to 55–30 heading into the final period.

The Vulcans made a push in the fourth quarter, but Biola answered with consistent execution on both ends of the floor. The Eagles shot over 60 percent in the final frame, scoring 22 points to seal the win.

With the win, Biola improved to 8–8 overall and 5–6 in the PacWest Conference, while Hawaii Hilo dropped to 5–12 and 3–9 in the conference.

The Eagles return to La Mirada and will prepare for their next home game on Thursday, Jan. 29 at 5:30 p.m. against Fresno Pacific.
