Biola Takes Care of Business at Chaminade

The Eagles delivered a strong all-around performance in their 63–53 win at Chaminade.

HONOLULU, Hawaii---The Biola women's basketball team bounced back on Thursday night with a 63–53 victory over Chaminade at McCabe Gym.

Jaycee Goldsmith notched her second double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Laney Grider led her team with 17 points. Hanne Nybo also achieved double-digit scoring, finishing 13 points.

Biola had a dominant first quarter where they out-scored Chaminade 14-5. The Eagles limited Chaminade's to an 8.33 field goal percentage while they shot 37.5 percent from the field. 

Biola kept up a steady offensive rhythm in the second quarter, scoring 14 points again in the frame. Chaminade got as close as two points away from Biola, but the Eagles would keep hold of the lead and end the half leading by six (28-22).

Biola responded in the third quarter, edging Chaminade 13–12 to maintain control. Aliyah Bantolina opened the half with a layup, while Grace Moyers knocked down a pair of three-pointers to help preserve the Eagles' advantage. Goldsmith added a basket in the paint and capped the period with a late three, sending Biola into the final quarter ahead 41–34.

Biola executed a strong finish. Nybo opened the period by converting a pair of free throws, and Grider followed with a layup to extend the Eagles' cushion. Chaminade made several pushes, but Biola consistently answered. Grider continued to attack the paint, Danya Dykstra and Goldsmith finished strong inside, and Goldsmith drilled a key three midway through the quarter to stretch the lead to double digits. Biola closed the game at the free-throw line and sealed the win when Dykstra finished a layup in the final seconds, securing a 63–53 victory.

With the win, Biola moved to 7-8 overall and 4-6 in the PacWest Conference while Chaminade slipped to 0-13 and 0-9 in the conference.

The Eagles continue their Hawaii road trip to the Big Island where they will face Hawaii Hilo on Saturday,  Jan. 24.
