Mid-Game Surge Not Enough in Road Loss at Cal Lutheran

Three goals in two minutes pushed BU forward but the team could not overcome the Kingsmen.

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. --- Biola Men's Water Polo made a push in the middle frames but couldn't climb all the way back, falling 11-9 to Cal Lutheran on Friday afternoon at the Samuelson Aquatics Center.

After trading early goals in the first, Biola found itself trailing 5-2 midway through the second quarter. But the Eagles caught momentum behind a balanced offensive effort, stringing together goals from Xander Trevitt, Nick Murray, and Noah Ryznar to pull within one by the end of the third.

Ryznar and Murray each tallied a pair of goals, with Murray also adding two steals. Caleb Hernandez contributed a goal and two assists, while Kevin Slack, Gavin McKenzie, and Adam Lavoy each chipped in second half scores.

The final frame, however, belonged to Cal Lutheran. The Kingsmen capitalized, outscoring Biola 4-3 in the fourth to hold off the comeback bid.

Despite the loss, Biola drew 12 exclusions, while scoring seven goals off assists and converting two sprint opportunities.

Biola returns to action on Monday with a scrimmage at home against Team China-Shanghai at 9:00 am.
