May 13, 2025

KANSAS CITY --- Academic success came in the form of the announcement of the College Sports Communicators 2025 Tennis Academic All-District lists on Tuesday. Biola tennis placed four total between the two teams, displaying their prowess on and off the court.

The 2024-25 Academic All-District Men's and Women's Tennis Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognized the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

To earn a spot on the list, student-athletes must be an academic sophomore, earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher and participate in 70 percent of the team's matches.

Three Eagles from the women's tennis squad were recognized, including Gaby Carvajal, Isabella Chavarria, and Alessia Radu.

Carvajal previously graduated with a degree in business administration with a 3.90 GPA, before making her way towards a master's of business administration with a 4.0 GPA this spring. She went undefeated in singles this year with three wins, while also going 11-7 in doubles matches for BU.

Chavarria took care of business in the top spot of the lineup, landing 12 wins from court number one. Entering the regional tournament, Chavarria boasted 18 singles and 12 doubles wins, while carrying a 3.63 GPA with a major in business administration.

Radu held a 3.94 GPA, while majoring in business administration in her sophomore campaign. She was also a big part of the teams' success on the court with a 14-3 record in singles with 12 wins from the No. 4 spot.

Santino Serrallonga was honored with the academic award, as the lone player from Biola men's tennis. The senior capped off his career with a 3.80 GPA and a degree in business administration. Serrallonga pulled off seven wins in singles, while going 8-5 in doubles matches this year.

Biola women's tennis is set to face Azusa Pacific in the NCAA DII West Regional Tournament later in the day on Tuesday at 2:30 pm in Azusa, California.
