Biola Gets Eliminated, Awaits Regional Selections

The Biola softball team was knocked out of the PacWest Championships after their 3-2 loss to Azusa Pacific at the Golden Eagle Stadium.

IRVINE, Calif.---The Biola softball team was knocked out of the PacWest Championships after their 3-2 loss to Azusa Pacific at the Golden Eagle Stadium.

The Eagles played a competitive game against APU, but the Cougars managed to pull ahead in the seventh inning.

Azusa Pacific scored first in the third inning but their lead would be short-lived as Biola matched the run in the bottom of the inning. Jackie Ibarra singled to lead off, was pushed to second from an Alexa Medley sacrifice bunt and eventually scored from a Cougar error.

After a scoreless fourth, APU broke the tie by scoring a single run in the fifth. Kendall Nakano tied up the game for Biola in the sixth inning with a no-doubter over the center field fence.

The Cougars were able to retaliate in the top of the seventh, pushing across another solo run to give them the 3-2 lead.

Despite a great effort, BU wasn't able to counter in the bottom of the seventh and would lose by one to APU.

Kayla Bousquette, DJ Symons and Raquel Reyes split time in the circle for Biola. Bousquette started, allowing the Cougars seven hits and two runs to score in 4.1 innings of work. Symons came in during the fifth and threw until the seventh. Symons allowed two hits and one run to score. Reyes closed the game out, throwing three outs to send her team to offense.

Biola now waits to see if they will qualify for regionals. Regional selections will be announced on Monday, May 5 at 7 a.m. PT. The Eagles are currently ranked fifth in the West Region and the top eight teams will advance.
