Biola's defense shone bright, but the offense couldn't convert in WWPA Finals.

MORGANTOWN, West Virginia — Biola's 2025 season came to an end in the Western Water Polo Championship Finals on Sunday as it suffered a 7-5 loss to the No. 1 East Coast seed McKendree.

The Eagles' defense, which carried the team through the latter stages of the season, dealt well with a potent McKendree offense. Unfortunately for BU 32 total missed shots, including four shots that excruciatingly stopped right on the goal line, kept the offense from pushing Biola to a win.

McKendree wins its first WWPA Championship and hands Biola its first-ever championship match loss. The Eagles' quest for a three-peat was just a matter of inches which did not go BU's way. For the Bearcats, the win is an emotional and uplifting one in honor of their late head coach Colleen Lischwe.

The Eagles outscored the Bearcats 3-2 in the third quarter as it began to look like the top seed in the west would find its way back. But the momentum stalled a bit in the fourth quarter as BU was limited to just one score while holding the Bearcats scoreless.

Veralie Naranjo had four of Biola's five goals to finish out her Biola career with 281 total tallies. Naranjo was named All-Tournament Second Team. Biola had two All-Tournament First Team selections - Ava LoBue and Alicia Fregoso.

Today's game marked the end of 2025 and the official end of the Biola careers for seniors Lizzy Birch, Christina Cervantes, Alicia Fregoso, Damaris Kientz, Chloe McKay and Veralie Naranjo. We want to thank those seniors and their families for their immense contributions to Biola Athletics and Biola Women's Water Polo.
