Two Shutouts on Senior Day

The Biola softball team celebrated senior day with back-to-back shutouts against Menlo College.

LA MIRADA---The Biola softball team celebrated senior day with back-to-back shutouts against Menlo College. Makayla Jordan, Bridgette Trujillo and Raquel Reyes played their last games at Freedom Field.

In the first game, Biola mercied Menlo 15-0 in five innings. BU recorded 14 hits in their double-digit victory against the Oaks. Seven Eagles batted .500 or above including Kendall Nakano (4-for-4), Mikala Huskey (1-for-1), Jordan (2-for-3), Jackie Ibarra (2-for-3), Trujillo (2-for-3), Reyes (2-for-4) and Maddie Granados (1-for-2).

Reyes, Nakano and Jordan smacked three-run home runs against Menlo in game one. Reyes' homer occurred in the first inning, Nakano's was in the second and Jordan's happened in the third. Nakano leads her team in home runs with 14, Reyes has the second-most with four and Jordan has the third-most with three. 

Nakano's 4-for-4 outing included an extra base hit and two singles. Huskey celebrated her 21st birthday by achieving the only triple of the game.

Reyes threw a two-hit shutout against Menlo. The Graduate Student threw three 1-2-3 innings and struck out four. She also improved to a 10-4 overall record in the circle.

The Eagles won the second game 2-0. Biola scored solo runs in the third and fourth innings to build up their two-run lead.

Reyes doubled in the third inning to score BU's first run (1-0). Ibarra scored the Eagles' second run with a single up the middle in the fourth inning (2-0).

Kayla Bousquette and DJ Symons teamed up in the circle to shut down the Oaks. Bousquette started the game and threw the first four innings. She allowed Menlo four scattered hits and struck out two. Symons came in to close in the fifth inning. In three innings of work, Symons allowed Menlo one hit while striking out one. Bousquette improved 5-4 overall in the circle and Symons recorded her second save of the year.

Ibarra totaled four hits today against Menlo which allowed her to tie the Biola Softball School Record for most hits in a single season. Ibarra has 78 hits so far for the 2025 season which ties her with Amerra Kesterson who set that record in 2006. Ibarra has the most hits for a single season in Biola Softball's NCAA DII Era. The last person to hold that record was Areana Ramos in 2018. 

Biola improved 37-17 overall and 29-7 in the PacWest Conference. Next up for the Eagles is the PacWest Championships in Irvine, California.
