That’s a Wrap

April 19, 2025

Box Score SURPRISE, Ariz. --- The final match of the PacWest Championships for the Biola Eagles featured a bout against Hawaii Hilo in the seventh-place game. Biola came up short in its season finale, falling to the Vulcans 4-1. The Eagles capped off 2025 with eight wins in 21 matches.

Saturday started in favor of the Eagles. Biola came out strong and took the doubles point with a convincing showing on all three courts.

Alejandro Flores Monteverde and Jules Zanarelli were untouchable to kick things off on court one. The duo won the first five games, before polishing off the win at 6-4.

On the other end, Patricio Larrea and Santino Serrallonga did not get off to the best start. On court two, they fell behind 3-0 but had a turnaround ready. The BU pair scored six-straight games to take the set and the doubles point.

The third court did not finish but Biola had the lead and was prime to win there, behind Thiago Canessa and Mateo Rivas.

As the match moved to singles play, Hawaii Hilo took over. The Vulcans tied the match at one by winning by retirement on court one. The next three were each straight-sets wins for UHH, as they clinched at 4-1.

Canessa had a great effort going on court three, boasting a 6-2, 6-6 lead when his match was cut short. Larrea was also in a good battle, as he was in the third set of his match on the second court, before it went unfinished.

The BU men's tennis squad will graduate Serrallonga and Larrea, who combined for 16 singles wins this year.
