Ending the Night With a Win

The Biola softball team ended their night with a win over Concordia University Irvine. The Eagles bounced back with a 13-5 victory in game two after a narrow 2-1 first game loss.

IRVINE, Calif.---The Biola softball team ended their night with a win over Concordia University Irvine. The Eagles bounced back with a 13-5 victory in game two after a narrow 2-1 first game loss.

Game 2: Biola 13 CUI 5
A big sixth inning  gave Biola a significant lead over CUI. The Eagles were trailing the Golden Eagles 3-2 until they answered in the sixth by scoring six runs from five hits and one Golden Eagle error.

Mikala Huskey doubled to begin the inning and would eventually score from a wild pitch. Jackie Ibarra scored the second run of the inning with a single up the middle. Kendall Nakano added four more runs to BU's score, clearing the bases with a grand slam. 

Biola cashed in five more runs in the seventh inning which gave them a  13-3 advantage. Ibarra and Alexa Medley singled to score the Eagles' first two runs of the seventh and then Nakano homered to score the final three. The Freshman now has 13 home runs this season which ties her for the most in the PacWest Conference.

BU's pitching staff consisted of Raquel Reyes, Maddie Granados and DJ Symons. Reyes tossed the first 4.2 innings, allowing CUI three hits and three runs to score. Granados came in to pitch the final out of the fifth inning and threw until the seventh where she allowed CUI two runs to score and Symons came in to close.

Ibarra, Medley and Nakano batted 3-for-5 in game two against CUI.

Concordia scored two runs in the second inning and held Biola scoreless until the sixth where Makayla Jordan homered to put Biola on the scoreboard.

Symons and Granados teamed up in the circle in the first game. Symons started and threw the first two innings where she allowed CUI two hits and two runs to score. Granados closed the game, holding the Golden Eagles scoreless and to four hits.

Biola plays Menlo next on Monday, April 21st at 3 and 5 p.m. at Freedom Field.
