Victory at Freedom Field

Late scoring led to a 2-1 victory for the Eagles over the Urban Knights in the first of two games on Saturday.

LA MIRADA — The Biola Eagles (12-9, 6-1 PacWest) started the day off with a 2-1 victory over the Academy of Art Urban Knights (2-18, 1-6 PacWest). Both teams had an offensively slow start, but ultimately Biola came out on top in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader at Freedom Field.

DJ Symons got the start in the circle and dealt four scoreless innings before the Urban Knights got on the board in the fifth inning by stealing home. Symons went on to pitch two more clean innings, resulting in her fifth win of the season. The pitcher gave up one run on six hits and struck out six batters in her seven innings in the circle.

The Eagles got the scoring started in the bottom of the sixth when Alexa Medley drove in Mikala Huskey with a single to center field. The designated player, Raquel Reyes then came up and doubled to left field bringing in the winning run.

Reyes went 2-for-3 on the day with an RBI and Kendall Nakano went 1-for-2 with a walk, helping out Biola's offense.

The Eagles are back in action at 2 p.m. for the final game of the four-game series against Academy of Art.
