Biola Falls to Top Team

The Biola men’s tennis team lost 7-0 to nationally-ranked No. 4 Washburn at the Biola Tennis Center.

LA MIRADA---The Biola men's tennis team lost 7-0 to nationally-ranked No. 4 Washburn at the Biola Tennis Center.

The Eagles challenged the Ichabods, beginning with a close doubles point. Alejandro Flores Monteverde and Jules Zanarelli competed against the #1 doubles team in the nation, Matthew Earle and Tim Hammes. Flores Monteverde and Zanarelli ended up losing 4-6 to the nation's best doubles pair.

The next two matches went to tiebreakers. Carter Magistad and Thiago Canessa recorded a win for Biola on the third court. Magistad and Canessa defeated their opponents 7-3. 

All eyes landed on the second court as Patricio Larrea and Mateo Rivas competed against Vasek Schneider and Tommy Cecchetti, the No. 11 doubles pair in the nation. Larrea and Rivas fought, but ended up losing 7-2 to their opponents.

Flores Monteverde and Tanner Summers lost their singles matches in three sets. Flores Monteverde faced nationally-ranked No. 5 Tim Hammes on the first court. The Sophomore lost his first set 5-7 and won the second 6-2. After a grueling battle, Flores Monteverde lost the third set 6-10. 

Summers won his first set 6-4 on the sixth court. The Sophomore lost the next two 2-6, 1-6.

Zanarelli and Larrea also competed nationally-ranked singles players. Zanarelli lost 3-6, 4-6 to #15 Schneider and Larrea lost 3-6, 5-7 to #33 Parson. 

Biola plays Menlo College next on Friday, March 7th at the Cartan Tennis Courts.
