Just Win, Baby

Eagles have a tough time cracking the VU pitching, but another shutout leads to a win.

LA MIRADA, Calif. — A two-run blast by Kendall Nakano proved more than enough for Biola Softball to earn its third-straight win over Vanguard in a drizzly opener at Freedom Field on Monday afternoon. Biola got those two runs in the first inning and then cruised to a 2-0 final score.

DJ Symons threw four scoreless innings for the Eagles before coming out of the game. She handed the ball off to Maddie Granados who went three scoreless to grab her first save of the season.

The Eagles' pitching staff has held the Lions to just two runs and 15 total hits through the first three games of this PacWest Conference series. Symons and Granados each held the Lions to just two hits over their time in the circle. Symons picked up five strikeouts in her strong four innings. Neither pitcher issued a walk, even through the misty conditions of the final two innings.

Biola's offense, other than Nakano, had a tough time cracking the Lions' game one pitching. Nakano had the big fly and added a double, accounting for two of Biola's three total hits in the game.

The win helps the Eagles officially win the series over the Lions, but BU has the chance to secure a clean sweep with a game two victory Monday night.
