Finding our Stride in San Diego

The Eagles found success at the Ross & Sharon Irwin Invitational down at Point Loma on Friday and Saturday.

SAN DIEGO --- Biola Track and Field took on a varied field of competition at Point Loma on Saturday. The Ross & Sharon Irwin Invitational saw plenty of success from Biola across all aspects of the meet.


The BU women crushed the 100 hurdles with two podium placements. Ebose Omofoma earned the crown in the event, claiming first place with a time of 14.03. Hannah Hanson was not far behind in third place at 14.41. Joley Sproul and Autumn Murray impressed as well, going for seventh and ninth place in a field of 28 competitors. 

Omofoma began her day in the high jump, landing on the podium with a mark of 1.60m. She was successful on the 1.60m mark on her first attempt. A.J. Antonio led the way for the men's team in the high jump, posting a fourth place showing at 1.96m.

In the long jump, Autumn Murray and Reese Adams went back-to-back, coming within centimeters of each other. Murray logged a jump of 5.23m, while Adams notched a 5.22m leap for fourth and fifth place. 

On the men's side, Marco Smith paced Biola in the long jump at sixth place with a jump of 6.56m. A.J. Antonio, Jack Ferrence, and Preston Archer all came next, going for eighth, 11th and 12th place, respectively.

Hope Willis excelled in the throws, posting a pair of podium placements. Willis was third in the javelin on Friday, tossing a 37.25m. She followed it up with a discus throw of 42.61m on Saturday for second place. Leah Gilmore nabbed fifth in the discus behind Willis, tallying a throw of 40.37m.

Gilmore also competed in the hammer throw, landing in seventh, alongside teammate Faith Winningham in sixth. For the men, Nathan Wilson offered a mark of 40.00m for 11th place.

Aidan Erickson tied for fifth in the pole vault on Saturday, successfully getting over the 4.35m mark.

The short distances were kicked off with a stellar performance from the BU women's 4x100 relay squad. Priscilla Jones, Audrey Mousa, Kailey Centers, and Caden Hunter pushed the team to a second place finish behind just Navy with a time of 47.77. Hunter led the way in the 100 and 200 sprints later in the day with fifth place finishes in both with times of 12.19 and 25.30.

In the men's 4x100 relay, Biola placed two groups in the top five with the A-squad and B-squad landing with .02 seconds of each other at 41.91 and 41.89, respectively. Three of those sprinters in the relays tackled the individual 100 event with top-11 finishes, including Joshua Widdows (7th), Matthew Kaloustian (9th), and Donovan Tommy (11th). Kaloustian kept up his pace in the 200, nabbing ninth again at 22.06.

Joaquin Ramirez delivered in the 400 hurdles, crossing the line at 54.78 for fourth place.

Maggie Williams cut up the track, winning the 800 and turning in a 12th place finish in the 1500. She took the top spot in the 800 with a time of 2:11.92 and was followed by teammates Ella Voris and Bethany Mapes, who also landed in the top 10. 

Mapes and the Eagles continued the domination in the 1500 event, as the team scored five top-12 finishes. Mapes led the way in fourth place at 4:33.95, while Voris, Hailey Wurzbach, and Jaina Kang went for eighth, ninth, and tenth, respectively.

The men's squad matched the women's prowess in the distance events with five top-10 finishes in the 1500 and three in the 800. Aidan Tomasini highlighted the distance events, tying for first in the 1500 and landing in sixth place in the 800. Melt Von Molendorff was just off the podium in the 1500, nabbing fourth at 3:55.02. Rouxan le Roux and Ben Sonneland also shined, tallying top-10 placements in both events.

The Eagles also battled in the 3000 steeplechase with Karis Brown taking sixth for the women and Mason Hedger taking fourth for the men.

The distance races continued to feature strong performances with the 5000. Ryan Todd was the first to cross, taking the crown with a time of 14:46.70. For the women, Aislin Taylor notched a fourth place finish in the 5000 with a mark of 18:20.35.

On the track, the Eagles ended the day with success in the 4x400. The men's group won in the field of 12, tallying a time of 3:20.64. The women notched a third-place finish at 3:54.08.

Biola will be back in action at UC Irvine beginning on March 28 at the Vince O'Boyle Track Classic.
