Eagles Avoid Rain but Fall

The rain wrapped up in time for Biola and Dominican to hit the diamond but the game got away from the Eagles.

LA MIRADA --- The third and final game of the series between Biola (15-10, 9-2 PacWest) and Dominican (15-12, 6-5 PacWest) was a narrow bout on Tuesday night. The two teams waited out the rain in the afternoon and battled under the lights, as the Penguins grabbed the edge, 4-3.

Biola's incredible nine-game winning streak in conference play finally came to an end on Tuesday. After dropping the opener against Jessup, the Eagles went for nine-straight with an average margin of victory of five runs.

On Tuesday night, the base paths were busy early with five runs through the first two frames between the two teams.

DUC struck in the top of the first, rallying behind four base hits and a walk. A bases loaded jam led to two runs, as the Penguins took the lead.

Jackie Ibarra responded by leading off the bottom of the first with a base hit to right field. Alexa Medley helped move her over to third and Kendall Nakano brought Ibarra home for the RBI with a sacrifice fly.

The good vibes continued on offense in the second frame for BU. A line drive to left field resulted in a double for Mikala Huskey to kick off the action. Makayla Jordan and Bridgette Trujillo each reached base to juice the base path. Leilani Salgado knotted the game at two with a single, scoring Huskey. Ibarra continued the movement station-to-station with another single to the same spot in right field. A new pitcher for DUC helped the visitors escape from the threatening position, as the Eagles led, 3-2.

The top of the fourth brought trouble for BU. Dominican logged an infield hit to put a runner on with two outs. The next batter got a hold of one and flipped the game on its head with a two-run homer.

A 4-3 deficit put the pressure on the Eagles but the bats stalled. The final hit for the Eagles came in the third inning, as Dominican retired ten-straight hitters to end the contest.

Ibarra impressed from the leadoff spot, going 2-4 at the plate, completing her third-straight game with multiple hits.

Racquel Reyes posted the final three frames in the circle with two strikeouts and no runs allowed.

Biola will take on Vanguard in its next series beginning on Friday in Costa Mesa.
