Box Score COSTA MESA, Calif. — A complete game gem from DJ Symons got Biola back into the win column on Saturday at Vanguard. Symons held the Lions to just two hits and one earned run in a game where neither team pushed a run across after the end of the third inning.

The Eagles got things going by scoring in the top of the first to set the tone for a PacWest Conference bounce-back effort. That lead was expanded to two in the third inning, and as it would turn out that would be all the support that Symons would need as she ate up innings for her team.

Biola compiled seven hits and would strand five runners on base in this one, but the team did enough to notch conference win number 10 in the first-ever PacWest-counting meeting between Biola and Vanguard. It was the 106th overall installment between these two long-time rivals and win number 48 for BU.

To start the game, leadoff batter Jackie Ibarra reached base with a single to the left side to open up the game. She would scamper around the bases to score on a sacrifice fly batter by Raquel Reyes

Ibarra was responsible for both of Biola's runs in this one. She singled in her second at-bat, moved to second on a passed ball and then she once again scored on a fielder's choice batted by Kendall Nakano.

Ibarra and Alexa Medley were locked in and doing their part all day long as Jackie went 2-for-4 and Medley was 2-for-3. Both teams used only one pitcher in the ballgame to save plenty of juice for the final three games of this series.

The Lions and Eagles have one more Saturday contest and then will play two at Freedom Field on Monday, with game one scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
