Mak Attack

A big game from Makayla Jordan keys another conference win for BU.

LA MIRADA, Calif. — Under a picturesque blue Southern California sky Biola Softball improved its winning streak to five games with a 9-5 win over Dominican University early Monday afternoon at Freedom Field.

The Eagles improved to 11-4 in home contests this season and now sit 9-1 in PacWest Conference competitions in spring 2025.

Biola scored its runs in bunches with a pair of big innings. The four-run fourth inning turned what was a back-and-forth game into a bit of a runaway. That inning was sparked by a one-out triple from game one catcher Bridgette Trujillo and helped BU turn a 2-1 deficit into a 5-2 advantage.

The second big inning came in the bottom of the sixth and was a much-needed answer after Dominican had scored a pair in the top half of the frame to make things a bit close for comfort.

Raquel Reyes began that rally, pinch-hitters Phebe Rodriguez and Cami Lara contributed by reaching base and then right fielder Makayla Jordan did the big damage with a 3-RBI triple.

Jordan was 1-for-2 in the game with those three RBI and also a pair of runs scored. She also provided some dandy defense in right field to help the Eagles hold the Penguins down.

Leadoff batter Jackie Ibarra was also a notable spark on the offensive end for BU in this one. She had three RBI herself in a 3-for-4 effort in the box. Biola combined for 13 hits in this one to work their way towards the nine-run output despite no errors from DUC. The top four spots in the lineup were especially potent as Ibarra, Alexa Medley, Kendall Nakano and Reyes each had multiple hits. Three of the four were involved in multiple runs as well.

DJ Symons would end up with the pitching win to improve to 6-0 on the season. She threw almost the complete game, only coming out for the final out of the sixth inning when she was relieved briefly by Maddie Granados.

Biola closes out its Monday doubleheader against Dominican at 2:45 p.m. The game can be viewed live at https://www.pacwestnetwork.tv/biola/. The two teams are set for one final game in the series at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye out for updates on that game with inclement weather anticipated in the area.
