BU Wins Series Against Jessup

The Biola softball team wrapped up a fun day at Freedom Field, sweeping their doubleheader against Jessup which locked in the series win.

LA MIRADA---The Biola softball team wrapped up a fun day at Freedom Field, sweeping their doubleheader against Jessup which locked in the series win.

Biola's offense was on fire against Jessup. The Eagles scored 21 runs and supplied 29 hits in the two games.

Game 1: BU 8 Jessup 3
Biola scored their runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. BU put up four runs in the fourth inning from five hits and one Warrior error. Jackie Ibarra and Alexa Medley led off with back-to-back singles. Makayla Jordan kept the rally going, singling to center which scored Ibarra (1-0).  Kendall Nakano ended up clearing the bases with a long ball that cleared the left center fence (4-0). This was the Freshman's second homer of the season. 

BU tacked on three more runs in the fifth inning. The Eagles again lead off with three consecutive singles, this time by Leilani Salgado, Ibarra and Medley. Jordan clutched up again, blasting a stand up double to center which scored two runs (6-0). Kennadie Tsue cashed in Biola's final run of the inning with a sacrifice fly (7-0).

Jessup made their way onto the scoreboard in the sixth inning, scoring three runs (7-3).  

The Eagles scored one more run before all was said and done. Mikala Huskey scored from a grounder to shortstop. 

Raquel Reyes started the second game and threw a solid 5.1 innings. Reyes allowed five hits and the Warriors' three runs while striking out five. DJ Symons closed the game out for the Eagles'. She struck out three while allowing Jessup no hits.

Game 2: BU 13 Jessup 5
Biola run-ruled Jessup 13-5 in the sixth inning. The Eagles rattled off 16 hits in the second game. Five Eagles batted .500 or above including Ibarra (4-for-5), Medley (2-for-4), Nakano (3-for-4), Reyes (2-for-4) and Huskey (2-for-3).

Ibarra and Nakano led the Eagles' with three RBIs. Tsue knocked in two runs and Medley, Jordan, Huskey and Cami Lara  knocked in single runs.

Maddie Granados started game two and threw a good 4.2 innings. The Freshman allowed the Warriors seven hits and five runs to score while striking out two. Her record improved to 3-2 overall in the circle as she was credited with the win. Kayla Bousquette closed out the game for Biola. She helped BU work out of a tough fifth inning and allowed two hits in 1.1 innings of work.

Biola improved 9-7 overall and 3-1 in the PacWest Conference. Next up for BU is Cal State San Marcos on Tuesday, March 4 at 3 and 5:30 p.m.
