Eagles Drop Game One to No. 18

The Biola Softball team fell 7-5 to the nationally ranked #18 Cal State San Marcos Cougars at Freedom Field on Tuesday afternoon.

LA MIRADA --- The Biola Eagles (9-8) dropped the first game of the day by a score of 7-5 to the No. 18 Cal State San Marcos Cougars (16-4) in an exciting game that came down to the final inning. The Eagles scored five runs on 10 hits, but the Cougars' late seventh inning rally brought them ahead, leading to a 7-5 final score.

The Eagles got on the board first by way of a Makayla Jordan RBI single which brought Alexa Medley across the plate for Biola's first lead of the day.

CSUSM got things going with a three run home run in the third inning. After the home run, the Cougars drove in another run off of a single, extending their lead to 4-1 heading into the bottom of the third.

Freshman, Kendall Nakano, took things into her own hands in the bottom of the third with a two run home run over the center field fence. Her third home run of the season brought the Eagles within one, making it a 4-3 game after three.

Bridgette Trujillo led off the fourth inning with a walk and scored the tying run off of Medley's RBI single.

With the game tied at four in the bottom of the fifth inning, Kennadie Tsue hit a lead-off double, giving her teammates the opportunity to reclaim the lead. Mikala Huskey singled up the middle, driving in Tsue for a 5-4 lead after five frames.

The Eagles and Cougars held each other scoreless until the final inning of the game. CSUSM broke it open once again and scored two, taking a 7-5 lead which was good enough to defeat Biola.

Makayla Jordan led Biola's offense, going 3-for-4 on the day with an RBI and one run scored. Nakano recorded her third career home run on Tuesday afternoon against CSUSM.

Kayla Bosquette got the start in the circle and pitched two innings, allowed three earned runs on three hits and walked one. Maddie Granados stepped in to relieve Bosquette and pitched 4.2 innings before DJ Symons entered for the final out of the game.

The Eagles are back at Freedom Field at 5:30 pm for game two of Tuesday's doubleheader against Cal State San Marcos.
