Eagles Pick Up First Conference Win

The Biola Baseball team ended the day with a 2-1 victory over Point Loma for their first PacWest win of the season.

San Diego, Calif.--- The Biola Eagles (4-5, 1-1) flipped the tempo in the second game of the day against the Point Loma Sea Lions (5-3, 1-1). After letting the conference opener slip away earlier in the day, the Eagles came out on top in game two to even up the series.

Luke Ballantyne got the start on the bump for the Eagles and recorded his second collegiate win. He pitched a scoreless three-straight innings to start the game and allowed one run on four hits, struck out five batters and walked two in his six innings on the mound.

Back-to-back hits for the Sea Lions, followed by a wild pitch scored Point Loma's only run of the day, giving them a 1-0 lead after four innings.

PLNU held the Eagles scoreless until the fifth inning when a lead-off single by Jonny Tewinkle sparked Biola's rally that got the job done on Saturday afternoon. Cole Thomson also singled, followed by a Nick Madole walk, loading the bases for the Eagles. Tommy Kendlinger was hit by a pitch with nowhere to run, tying up the game at one a piece. With two outs and the bases still loaded, Sam Lisiak drew a walk, again, with nowhere to go, driving in the second run for BU.

Dylan Alanis pitched the seventh inning for the Eagles and recorded his second save of the season.

While the Eagles were dealt their two runs by PLNU, they worked with what they got and ultimately, it led to their first PacWest win of the season. Point Loma will head to La Mirada on Monday February 17, where the Eagles and Sea Lions will play the final two games of the series at 11 am and 2 pm.
