Not Our Night

Biola kept it close early but couldn’t overcome the Sea Lions’ second-half surge.

LA MIRADA---The Biola women's basketball team suffered a 61–47 loss to Point Loma on Wednesday night at Chase Gymnasium.

In the first quarter the Eagles erased a 12–4 deficit with a nine-point burst in the final minutes to take the 13–12 lead as they headed into the second. MiaGrace Delahoz knocked down a three with five seconds remaining that gave them the one-point advantage. Biola held Point Loma to 29% shooting in the opening frame.

The energy continued into the second quarter as Biola traded baskets with the Sea Lions. The teams were tied twice and exchanged the lead multiple times, but a Point Loma three in the final minutes gave the visitors a slight edge going into halftime (28-25).

Coming out of the break, Point Loma's offense found its rhythm while Biola struggled to convert from beyond the arc. The Eagles went scoreless from downtown in the third quarter (0-for-7), allowing Point Loma to stretch its lead to eight (42–34) heading into the fourth.

Point Loma continued to surge early in the final period, using an 11–2 run to expand its advantage to 15 (54–39) with just over five minutes remaining. Despite trailing, Biola continued to fight. Addison Taylor delivered a timely layup, and Hanne Nybo remained steady at the line, but the Eagles could not generate the scoring run needed to close the gap.

Nybo led Biola with 15 points and seven rebounds, shooting an impressive 6-for-7 from the free throw line. Grider added 10 points and four assists, while Kubo contributed five points and four boards. Kayla Jones provided a late spark with a three-pointer in the final minute.

Biola fell to 4–3 overall and 2–1 in PacWest play, while Point Loma improved to 7–2 and remained undefeated in conference (3–0).
