Regular Season Ready

Biola caps its preseason with a 56-43 win over Pomona-Pitzer behind Nybo's double-double

LA MIRADA --- The Biola women's basketball team took on the visiting Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens in Chase Gymnasium for their last exhibition of the season. The Eagles took home the win, 56-43.

The first quarter was a back and forth battle. Hanne Nybo started the scoring for Biola with a three pointer one minute into the game. After a Lizzy Weber three pointer and a pair of Nybo free throws, the Eagles led by three midway through the first. A 9-3 Sagehen run gave them the lead with a minute left. Both teams finished the frame strong, all tied at 18 apiece.

The second frame was all BU, outscoring Pomona-Pitzer, 19-5. Laney Grider and Alyssa Kubo led the offensive charge with 13 points combined. Grace Moyers hit a mid range jumper to close the half, 37-23 in favor of the Eagles.

The second half saw steady scoring from both sides. The Sagehens had seven players in the scoring column to Biola's four. Addison Taylor contributed four points while Nybo and Grider chipped in eight and five, respectively.

Offensively for Biola, Nybo collected a double double with 17 points and 11 rebounds, leading the team in both categories. Grider followed closely with 12 points and four boards. Kubo had a balanced showing with nine points, five rebounds and five assists. Defensively, the Eagles were relentless, swiping 12 steals.

The Eagles will kick off their regular season against Westminster on November 14, at 3 p.m. in Chase Gymnasium.
