VB Player of the Week Kendall V

Vandertuig, Eagles Earn PacWest Awards

A 2-0 week is rewarded with PacWest Team of the Week.

November 03, 2025

LA MIRADA, Calif. — Last week was a resounding success for Biola Volleyball with a pair of thrilling victories over long-time rivals Concordia and Westmont.

Following its nostalgic Ws, Head Coach Brian Failinger's team was rewarded with PacWest Conference Team of the Week honors for the first time in 2025. They improved to 5-2 in their conference games and 10-1 at home. The two league losses is tied for the third-fewest losses in the PacWest this year, within striking distance of a playoff spot.

In addition to the team recognition, senior Kendall Vandertuig earned her second PacWest Conference Player of the Week title this season. Vandertuig was heroic in Biola's come-from-behind five-set victory over the Concordia Golden Eagles. She had 26 kills on 50 swings, hitting .420.

"Kendall was just dominant on both sides of the ball again this weekend," said Failinger. "She obviously carried a huge offensive load, but I think we were more impressed by how well she passed in serve receive, and her ability to come up with clutch blocks and digs at pivotal moments in both matches."

Vandertuig had 41 total kills in the week, putting her up to 295 on the season. That number is the second-most in the conference and already a new career-high.

As far as defense goes, Vandertuig chipped in 24 digs and was in on four blocks in the two BU wins. She was served at 25 times with only two receiving errors.

Biola moves to 15-7 overall. This week is an important one as the Eagles host Point Loma (19-2. 7-0 PacWest) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Vanguard (16-6, 4-4 PacWest) on Saturday at 7 p.m. Sandwiched between is a road match at Cornerstone Cup Rival APU (7-14, 2-6 PacWest) on Friday at 6 p.m.
