Box Score LA MIRADA --- The Biola men's water polo team closed out their regular season at home with a senior day win against the visiting UC Merced Bobcats. Backed by a combined 15 goals from six seniors, the Eagles outpaced the Bobcats, 16-11.
Gavin McKenzie was the leading goal scorer for the Eagles with five goals. Caleb Hernandez followed closely with three of his own, adding two assists to his total. Adam Lavoy, Kyle Seifen, and Nick Murray all scored twice while Alec Abrahamian and Isaac Demski netted solo goals. Joshua Dachenhausen showcased his dominance between posts stopping 10 shots for a .476 save percentage.
"Overall it was a great team win. We had contributions from so many players and sent the seniors out with a win in the last regular season game," said head coach,
Jens Cole. "The seniors stepped up huge and were leaders in the water. Each senior scored, which is an awesome thing to see happen. Dach had an elite game in the cage and gave us confidence to force Merced to shoot at some challenging angles."
The first frame found three seniors scoring for BU. Murray, Lavoy, and Hernandez each found the back of the cage, but a five-point Bobcat burst left Biola trailing 5-3.
In the second period, back-to-back goals from Seifen and Abrahamian put Biola and UC Merced all square at five. A last-second goal by the Bobcats put them up one going into the half, 6-5.
The third frame saw four different scorers for the Eagles. Back-and-forth scoring from both sides kept it close, and Hernandez found the late equalizer to tie it at nine going into the final period.
Five goals from Gavin McKenzie in the fourth shut out the Bobcats. Hernandez and Seifen tacked on one each, and the Eagles' seven goals in the fourth sealed it.
Up next is the WWPA Championship starting November 21st in Geneva, Ohio.
