Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

A Foul Ending

Biola Men's Basketball endures heartache on night two of this young season.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Men's Basketball nearly authored one of the most electric comebacks Chase Gym has seen in recent years, erasing a double-digit second-half deficit with a blistering offensive surge before falling 67–64 to Cal State San Marcos on Saturday night.

The Eagles, who struggled to find their shooting touch early, caught fire late — punctuated by a thunderous three-pointer from Charlie Gehler that sent the crowd into chaos and tied the game in the final minutes. With members of Gehler's former program, San Diego Miramar College, in the stands loudly cheering him on, the moment carried even more meaning.

But heartbreak found its way into the chat as Biola committed a foul on a CSUSM desperation three that sent the Cougars' shooter to the line for three shots with the game tied and just .3 seconds left.

The visiting team went 3-for-3 at the line to nab the lead, and despite a great football pass inbounding the ball the Eagles could not get the final shot off before time expired.

The Eagles opened the night in an offensive drought, shooting just 13-for-32 in the first half and going 1-for-13 from three, falling behind by as many as 15 points.

Even so, Biola's defense kept the game within reach — forcing early turnovers, contesting threes, and pounding the paint to stay afloat. The Cougars, meanwhile, capitalized at the line, hitting 10 first-half free throws, helping them build a 36–28 halftime lead.

The second half initially brought more frustration as CSUSM scored seven-straight to open the frame. With 16 minutes remaining Biola trailed 44–30 — dangerously close to letting the game slip out of reach. That's when everything flipped.

From the 16-minute mark to roughly the five-minute mark, Biola unleashed its best stretch of basketball all night. The Eagles ripped off a prolonged run built on defense, ball pressure, and constant attacks at the rim.

Cameron Brown repeatedly sliced the lane, Chris Harris controlled the glass and pumped in second-chance points, and Walker Weir and Joe Ofori provided massive boosts.

And then came the moment.

Trailing by just a possession after the long rally, Biola swung the ball to Charlie Gehler, who drilled a deep right-wing three — his second of the night — to tie the game and blow the roof off Chase Gym.

Cameron Brown was outstanding all night, scoring a team-high 17 points, grabbing four rebounds, adding three steals, and serving as Biola's engine during the comeback.

Chris Harris delivered his best outing of the young season with 7 points and 8 rebounds, including multiple contested boards that swung momentum.

Walker Weir and Joe Ofori combined for 14 points and 9 rebounds, anchoring a bench unit that kept Biola alive early and fueled the run late.

Biola drops to 1–1 on the season and returns to Chase Gym on Friday, November 21 when it hosts Stanton.
