Game Recap: Volleyball | | Aaron Rollins, Assistant Sports Information Director

The Eagles face the Lions

Biola fell short to the Vanguard after a tight first set.

Costa Mesa, Calif. — Biola Volleyball fell in straight sets (25-23, 25-15, 25-17) to the Vanguard Lions on the road.

Biola came out swinging in the first set. The Eagles would start with four straight points thanks to kills from Kendall Vandertuig, Hannah Hanson, and a Simi Kapustova ace. Hannah Guzzetti and Hanson would team up for a block to maintain momentum. Facing a Lions set point and trailing by five, Vandertuig would bounce three kills, alongside two service aces from Bethany Bellfi and Kapustova, eventually dropping the set 25-23.

Sets two and three would have different outcomes. While the BU attack would be relentless, Vanguard seemed to have the answers. Scattered Lions' runs would prove costly against Biola. Six different hitters for the Eagles attempted to provide a push, but VU maintained a cushion they wouldn't relinquish.

Vandertuig led the Eagles with a double-double, 12 kills and 10 digs. Hanson followed closely with seven kills and nine digs. Tully, Guzzetti, and Emma Fairbairn each added four kills. Lexi Lambert notched 18 assists and eight digs for a near double-double.

BU fell 9-5 overall while VU improved 11-2.

Biola Volleyball will be back in action on the road against the Chaminade Silverswords, at 9 p.m. (6 p.m. HT)
