Santa Barbara, Calif. --- The
Biola Volleyball team took on the
Westmont Warriors on the road for a key
PacWest matchup. The Eagles secured a clutch conference win by a final score of three sets to one (25-16, 25-21, 21-25, 25-19).
The first two sets
Biola showcased their depth. In the first frame,
Grace Rice dished out eight assists, setting up kills from Kendall
Vandertuig,
Payton Tully,
Hannah Hanson,
Juliana Van Ommering, and
Hannah Guzzetti. Three timely blocks kept the momentum for BU, as they capped off set one, 25-16.
Set two mirrored set one.
Simi Kapustova started to heat up, bouncing five kills and adding a block. Van
Ommering and
Guzzetti stayed hot, both adding to their kill totals with six and three kills respectively. Hanson served up an ace, as the Eagles took the second, 25-21.
After a hard fought third frame,
Biola bounced back in the fourth to take the match, 3-1. Vandertuig led the attack with six kills and two blocks.
Overall, the Eagles shared the ball logging kills from six different hitters, while Rice and Hanson each totaled 24 assists. Vandertuig and Van
Ommering each earned double doubles.
With the win, the Eagles improve to 14-7 overall and 5-2 in conference.
Biola will make their way back home to face Concordia (11-9) tomorrow night for a non-conference
matchup at 7 p.m.
