Game Recap: Men's Water Polo | | Aaron Rollins, Assistant Sports Information Director

Biola Battle Past Sunbirds

First half surge keeps Eagles perfect in conference

Fresno, Calif. — The Biola men's water polo team took on conference opponent, Fresno Pacific, under the lights at Sunnyside High School.

After Biola gave up the opening sprint, Gavin McKenzie put the Eagles on the board with a goal 56 seconds into the game. Isaac Demski and Caleb Hernandez each scored first frame goals, closing out period one all square at three.

Period two was all Biola. A late Hernandez goal, off a dime from Kyle Seifen, left no doubt for BU. Joshua Dachenhausen would make two vital saves, carrying the Eagles momentum into the halftime break.

The second half was quiet offensively, due much in part to solid team defense on both sides. Adam Lavoy would put the Eagles up for good with his lone goal in the third.

Later on, the Sunbirds would score back-to-back goals, but it wouldn't suffice. Xander Trevitt got on the board for BU in the fourth, helping lift his team to an 8-6 win.

Dachenhausen made his presence known in goal notching 12 saves on a season-high .667 save percentage. Hernandez led with three goals, McKenzie scored twice, while Lavoy, Trevitt, and Demski would all add individual efforts.

The Eagles improve to 6-17 overall and, critically, to 2-0 in WWPA conference play.

Biola will travel to Merced to take on the Bobcats (4-11, 0-2), tomorrow at 1 p.m. at the UC Merced Aquatics Center.
