LA MIRADA --- The 2025 campaign has arrived for the Biola Women's Water Polo squad. The team reloaded with nine newcomers for an already star-studded Eagles cast.

This talented group of newcomers brings a mix of athleticism, resilience, and a drive for excellence that will add depth and energy to an already successful program. Three transfers and six freshmen will don the Eagles cap for the first time.

"This incoming class of  nine brings an incredible combination of talent, tenacity, and relentless determination," said Head Coach Sarah Ramirez. "Their hard work, competitive spirit, and commitment to growth align perfectly with the culture of competitive excellence and faith we cultivate here at Biola. We're excited to see how they contribute to our team's success both in and out of the water."

The new group of recruits will be joining a winning program that is fresh off back-to-back conference crowns. Under Ramirez, the Eagles have soared from its inaugural season in 2022 to two WWPA Championships, two trips to the National Collegiate Women's Water Polo Tournament, including a win on the national stage.

The 2025 season schedule holds tough opponents in the non-conference slate, beginning with No. 3 USC on opening day. The following week features three ranked matchups at the University of Hawaii Manoa Invite, battling No. 5 Hawaii, No. 10 Loyola Marymount, and No. 13 Arizona State.

WWPA play is set to begin on the road for BU at CSU Monterey Bay on March 15. The week prior holds the team's home opener, as the Eagles host Saint Francis on March 7 at Splash!.

2025 Newcomers

Marissa Brock - Sophomore - Center - Stockton, Calif. - St. Mary's HS - Cal Baptist
Coach Ramirez - "Marissa comes to us with a year under her belt of collegiate water polo at CBU which will be a huge benefit for our team. She is hungry to compete and her size along with game IQ will provide early opportunities for success. She has good ball handling as a center and field blocking which we rely on in 5v6 situations. Her personality fits well with our team and we are glad she has found a great fit of education, water polo, and culture in Christ here at Biola."

Alyssa Cuevas - Freshman - Center - Elmhurst, Ill. - York HS
Coach Ramirez - "Alyssa is a center with incredible strength, size, and smarts which reflect on our philosophies of Humble, Hungry, Smart. She is a player who is coachable and always wants to expand her game IQ. We are excited for how she continues to elevate her game as a center but also in the defensive responsibilities that centers need to have to be successful. She is hungry to improve as evidenced by the time she spent playing and training in California in her high school offseason, and she is proud to represent Biola wherever she goes."

Alyah Ibarra - Freshman - Center - Commerce, Calif. - California HS
Coach Ramirez - "Alyah is a unique center in that she brings as much speed to her game as she does with her quick hands as a 2 Meter player. She also adds to our system of play by creating space in counterattack, a skill that is important to our offense while avoiding getting excluded on counterattack defense. Her strength in her shot and ability to finish under pressure will be put to the test against high level teams, and she is ready for those games to work towards our goals in conference play."

Clara McKee - Freshman - Goalkeeper - Richmond, Tex. - Foster HS
Coach Ramirez - "Clara brings a lot of potential to our goalkeeper corps and has a great team first attitude that benefits positively into our culture. She brings a mindset that helps our team to balance camaraderie, competition, and Christ driven focus. We are excited for her growth working with our senior trio and her future is bright with our program."

Destiny Moreno - Freshman - Center Defender - Commerce, Calif. - Schurr HS
Coach Ramirez - "Destiny comes to us following a strong prep career and exposure to high level water polo within the US National Team pipeline as part of the Cadet (16 and Under) Futures Team. Her exposure to high level water polo allows her vision within the game to strengthen our defense while reminding us that defenders also make a big impact offensively. We see her working well with senior Lizzy Birch, and our goalkeeper corps to not only succeed in the tough part of our season but also in our quest to win another WWPA Championship this season and in the future."

Gwendolyn Pidd - Freshman - Attacker - Manhattan Beach, Calif. - Mira Costa HS
Coach Ramirez - "Gwen is a firecracker of a player who is constantly pushing the counterattack and has one of the hardest outside shots to defend on this roster. She will be a tough player for opponents to defend because her counterattack awareness reflects her desire to go for the ball along with her communication. She is also a player who will also be a large part of our defense with her awareness for the ball being a help to our defenders and in 5v6 situations."

Annabella Rapp - Junior - Attacker - La Habra, Calif. - La Serna HS - UCLA
Coach Ramirez - "Annabella comes to us as a transfer and she has stepped into our culture nicely. She will add speed to our 1-2 (Left Side) while also having a hard outside shot and driving skills to force defenders into bad body positioning. We are excited to have her athleticism add to our offense overall while paired with an aggressive want for the ball on every possession. Her championship experience in the CIF Finals in 2020 will also pay dividends for when we are looking towards post-season playoffs."

Savannah Rapp - Freshman - Center Defender - La Habra, Calif. - La Serna HS
Coach Ramirez - "Savannah comes to us as another local player from the area who brings a positive attitude to our team culture. She has raw potential paired with her desire to learn and get better everyday. We are also confident her size will be an asset for matching up against bigger centers when we play high level teams. She comes from a family who has fully embraced the Biola community and we are proud to have her continue the tradition of representing Biola within the greater La Mirada area."

Katie Webb - Junior - Attacker - Modesto, Calif. - Gregori HS - CSU Fullerton
Coach Ramirez - "Katie is another fantastic example of the culture we want to have on our team when it comes to positive attitude, coachability, and confidence. Although her playing experience and development are different due to Covid, she has the desire to be better every day and will have the opportunity to prove her skillset in big moments. We are looking forward to also having her maturity set the standard for how all players in our program develop over the course of their time at Biola."
